Living a happier and healthier lifestyle requires some dedication where it is wise to limit processed foods which include boxed foods, frozen foods, canned goods and some dried foods.

The processing of foods alters the natural components of food which will make it less beneficial to the body.

The use of chemicals to preserve, control and enhance the flavor can actually be more damaging to the systems of the body than enhancing health.

Notice that I mentioned, limitation and not elimination. There are times when using canned foods will make your life a bit easier but choose them wisely. If using canned vegetables for example, be sure to rinse thoroughly before eating. Defrost frozen items in the refrigerator and not on the counters to avoid bacteria growth. Some dried products are healthy and wise to use as well. But in the large scheme it’s wise to limit your use of processed foods.

A busy lifestyle makes it much more difficult to make and create your meals at home. However, with some dedication, and organization; healthy foods can be made in the home especially if your entire family is involved. Get your children involved in the kitchen and teach them early to make better food choices. When given the choice, fresh is always best.
